- I will rate each flavor on the following four categories: Name, Appearance, Smell, and Taste.
- I will not rate the name of a flavor if it is also the name of a fruit. Because I think Adam did a splendid job naming the fruit, and I don't feel that I have a right to judge them.
- Each category can receive anywhere from 1 - 5 stars, with 5 being the best.
Apple Cinnamon
Name: **** (4 Stars)
Not your typical "creative" name, but for this combination of flavors it seems appropriate. Something about the words "apple" and "cinnamon" seem like they should just always go together. I wouldn't want this combination to be named anything different. It's simple and fitting for this mix.
Appearance: *** (3 Stars)
It's a mix of two red flavors making it... red. Not unpleasing to the eye, but nothing exceptional.
Smell: ***** (5 Stars)
Smells like Christmas. Five stars.
Taste: **** (4 Stars)
It definitely has a good and pleasant taste, but the two flavors are not exceptionally strong or enticing to the taste buds.
Would I order this flavor again?
Possibly - It's something I could see myself having a random craving for, but I wouldn't get it on a regular basis.
Overall Rating: 4 Stars

Apricot
Name: N/A
Appearance: *** (3 Stars)
The one-flavor ones will probably all receive three stars in appearance. Nothing bad looking, but nothing super great either.
Smell: *** (3 Stars)
Not awful-smelling, but I would never buy an apricot-scented candle.
Taste: * (1 Star)
Apricots are pretty nasty and an apricot-flavored sno cone is equally as bad.
Would I order this flavor again?
No. I hardly wanted to finish the small sample I tried today.
Overall Rating: 2 1/3 Stars

Apricot Stone Sour
Name: * (1 Star)
The word "stone" is not something I want to associate with a sno cone that I am eating. Also, it wasn't sour. This name lies.
Appearance: **** (4 Stars)
Yellow and orange. A good blend of colors. Nice. Simple. Quite pleasing to the eye.
Smell: **** (4 Stars)
Just apricot received three stars, and adding lemon bumped the scent up maybe a half of a star... It's the pineapple that bumped the smell up to a full four stars.
Taste: ** (2 Stars)
Better than apricot, but after I finished it I said, "Meh..." Not awful, I guess... but definitely not great.
Would I order this flavor again?
No. Not that it was completely awful, but it just did not satisfy my taste buds.
Overall Rating: 2 3/4 Stars
My thoughts:
ReplyDelete1. Apple Cinnamon. Two totally under-rated flavors. It makes me nervous when people order cinnamon because it gets mixed reviews and I hope they'll like it... but I definitely like them both, and have actually already had this combination a couple times since opening Saturday. It's tasty.
2. Apricot. Not ordered alone much, but it's not total bottom for me. There are several flavors that fall below it. Joel likes it, and I don't think it's bad. I think you're being to hard on apricot. Besides, add lemon and pineapple (best flavor EVER) and you get...
3. Apricot Stone Sour! Really, you didn't like this one that much? I totally like apricot stone sour. I get it on a semi-regular basis. Yum.

ReplyDelete(oops)
I just don't know if I am okay with cinnomon flavored ice. Too much of an oxy-moron for me. Is that how you write oxy-moron?
ReplyDeleteI would just like to say that I like you three. I like Emily for this idea. It is totally awesome. I like Pam for her serious wisdom of Tropical Sno that is evident in her post. And I like Ashley for not only using the word oxymoron but for making the astute observation that hot ice is weird.
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying this. But I have to disagree quite strongly with your disdain for the name "Apricot Stone Sour." Sounds like a great name for a flavor to me. You can't take things like "stone" literally when it's a flavor name. You just have to decide if it's a cool name or not! Do you hate Cold STONE Creamery for the same reason?
ReplyDeleteAlso, "sour" things don't have to be sour. Of course, that's just my opinion, and it's your blog, not mine, so keep doin' what you're doin'.
I love apple cinnamon mixed with something, but I can't remember what - vanilla maybe? Can any of my girls remember? I hope so, because it was in my favorites last year.
ReplyDeleteApricot stinks, both in taste and in smell. I really don't know why anyone would order that.
Apricot stone sour isn't my favorite, either, but then I'm not a citrusy kind of girl, unless it's a real orange or grapefruit or something.
And I miss Amanda Thill.
I think I will have to wait to try my first tropical sno cone until all the flavors are reviewed. But I know to stay clear of the apricot - I have a thing against fuzzy fruit anyways.
ReplyDeleteI am really going to like this blog. I am going to say that Cinnamon is a great flavor. What people don't know is that the "hotness" of cinnamon actually comes from the oil of the plant, but the spice cinnamon is just the bark of the plant. If you want to be technical, there doesn't have to be any hotness to cinnamon for it to still be cinnamon. So technically it isn't a true oxymoron. Just sayin.
